ABOUT

ANGELA AGUIRRE

Angela Aguirre, known on social media as "Millennial Mija" is a Chicana writer, speaker, and teaching artist based in Los Angeles. Angela is an outspoken and unique voice, who brings passion to everything she does. She is a fierce advocate for women and girls and believes in using her art and platform to empower her community. She graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a Bachelors in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Rhetoric and Social Change.

As an advocate, Angela has been working with people with disabilities in classroom and educational settings for over 10 years. As a person living with mental illness, she is very open and candid about her struggles with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and addiction. Especially on Social Media, which has allowed her to create an incredibly supportive and responsive online community.

Her first book of poems and writing prompts, Confessions of a Firework, was published in 2016 by The World Stage Press. Her work has been featured by Latina Magazine, All Def Digital, BESE, TherapyForLatinx, ADDitude Magazine, as well as a viral article she wrote for Huffington Post Latino Voices, titled "How I define my Chingona Fire."

She has been performing since 2010, and has taught workshops and done keynotes at middle and high schools, and universities all over the country.

In 2015, Angela co-founded Chingona Fire with Yesika Salgado. Chingona Fire was a Latina Feminist poetry collective that curated events for women of color in Los Angeles. Chingona Fire was known in the community for fostering empowerment, sisterhood, and solidarity and it gained a following of over 25K. In 2017, she was the youngest honored as one of ten Women of the Year by Senator Anthony Portantino. In 2018, she gave the opening talk at TEDxCal State LA. In 2019, she started The Millennial Mija Podcast which now has over 25K overall listens and hundreds of subscribers. In 2020, she created a self healing workshop series called Season of Self which has created a space for women on their individual journeys to self-discovery and growth. In 2022, she was given the Women for Racial Justice award by the YWCA for her work with youth in the community.
